Building skills in the workplace
CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry is a trade qualification designed for carpenters working across residential & commercial construction.
The qualification develops practical skills across the carpentry process, including setting out, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing building components using timber and non-timber materials.
As the employer, you provide the workplace where your apprentice can develop and practise their skills through genuine carpentry work. My Industry Training works alongside you to deliver the formal training and assessment required for the qualification.

What will your apprentice learn?
CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry develops the practical skills and knowledge required to work across residential and commercial construction environments.
Tools & Materials
Use carpentry tools, equipment and materials safely and effectively across a range of construction tasks.
Setting Out & Planning
Read and interpret plans, complete construction calculations and accurately set out carpentry work.
Frames & Structures
Develop skills in constructing flooring systems, wall frames, ceiling frames, roof trusses and pitched roofs.
Installation & Finishing
Install windows, doors, external cladding, lining, panelling, mouldings and other building components.
Safety & Site Practices
Apply workplace health and safety requirements, identify construction hazards and work safely on site.

A successful apprenticeship is a partnership between the apprentice, their employer and
My Industry Training. Employers play an important role in providing appropriate workplace experience and opportunities for apprentices to develop their practical skills.
Provide practical opportunities
Where reasonably possible, provide your apprentice with opportunities to undertake carpentry work relevant to the skills being developed
through their qualification.
Support skills development
Provide appropriate workplace supervision and guidance while your apprentice develops confidence, experience and practical carpentry skills.
Make training possible
Support your apprentice to participate in required training and assessment activities and provide access to appropriate workplace tasks, equipment and materials where required.
Stay involved in their progress
Work with My Industry Training throughout the apprenticeship to support your apprentice's development and progression towards competency.

Does my apprentice need to attend classroom or block training?
My Industry Training uses a flexible, workplace-based delivery model. Theory is completed through the online student portal, while practical training and assessment are connected to the apprentice's workplace.

What does the employer need to provide?
Employers play an important role in providing appropriate workplace supervision and opportunities for the apprentice to develop practical carpentry skills through genuine workplace tasks.

How is practical competency assessed?
Practical competency is assessed against the requirements of CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry. Assessment may include workplace tasks, practical demonstrations, observation and other evidence required to demonstrate competency.

What happens if our workplace cannot provide experience for a unit?
If particular practical experience cannot be provided through the apprentice's normal workplace, My Industry Training can work with the employer and apprentice to determine how the required training and assessment can be completed.

How will I know how my apprentice is progressing?
My Industry Training works with employers and apprentices throughout the qualification to support progress, identify training needs and keep workplace training connected to the apprentice's development.

Is government funding available?
Queensland Government funding may contribute towards the cost of training and assessment for eligible apprentices. Eligibility, applicable fees and any exemptions depend on the apprentice's individual circumstances and training contract.
