QCE Point - First Aid Short Course
This short course intends to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge for a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This course is completed in partial completion a Certificate III Qualification, with the potential of offering secondary school students with two (2) QCE points.
Overview
Learn the skills required for a First Aid Emergency
This short course intends to provide participants the necessary skills and knowledge for a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a First Aid Emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies.
Structure:
For the First Aid Short Course, there are four (4) units of competency. These are awarded in partial completion of the CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support qualification, with the potential of offering secondary school students two (2) QCE points:
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
- HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
QCE points indicated are a guide only. A student’s individual circumstances, such as previous courses and units completed, may impact their eligibility to gain QCE points
This is a Nationally Recognised qualification.
My Industry Training provides training and assessment for this course. My Industry Training is a business branch of Adapt Education (RTO 32452). Students are enrolling with Adapt Education Pty Ltd trading as My Industry Training.
Delivery Mode
Our First Aid Short Course is delivered through a flexible blended model designed to minimise disruption and give students the confidence to perform First Aid safely and effectively.
Participants will be required to complete a series of assessment tasks which include a written/online exam and practical demonstration/observation.
Online Theory – Self‑Paced Learning
All students complete the theory component online through our interactive learning portal. This self‑paced module must be fully completed before attending the practical day. Students can log in anytime, progress at their own speed and revisit content as needed to build strong foundational knowledge. Students will be given ample time to complete the online assessment and will have access to trainers for any questions they may have regarding their online theory. Students will have a maximum of three (3) attempts for the online theory assessment, therefore it is very important that they read through the learning resources provided and take their time when attempting the quizzes. In the case where students exceed their three (3) attempts for the online assessment, they will be deemed ineligible to attempt the practical, and therefore unable to complete the training.
One‑Day Practical – A Trainer Comes to You
Once the online theory is complete, a qualified First Aid trainer will attend your school or workplace for a single full day of face‑to‑face practical training. This session runs for within a normal school day timetable and covers all hands‑on skills required for HLTAID009, HLTAID011 & HLTAID012, including CPR, casualty management, bandaging, choking response, and simulated emergency scenarios.
What We Provide
- All first aid equipment and training resources
- Manikins, AED trainers, bandaging materials and scenario kits
- A registered teacher/trainer experienced in delivering first aid in school and workplace environments
- Assessment completed on the day, with clear guidance and support

Identify and assess first aid emergencies involving adults, children and infants
Follow DRSABCD procedures across community, workplace and education settings
Ensure safety for self, bystanders, children and staff
Activate emergency services and respond according to organisational procedures
CPR & First Aid Skills
Perform CPR on adults, children and infants following ARC guidelines
Use an AED safely and confidently in a range of environments
Provide first aid for common injuries, illnesses and paediatric emergencies
Apply asthma and anaphylaxis first aid, including auto‑injectors and inhalers
Communicate calmly and clearly with casualties, children, staff and bystanders
Obtain consent from adults or parents/guardians where possible
Provide supportive, child‑focused care in education and care settings
Maintain privacy, confidentiality and duty‑of‑care responsibilities
Maintain privacy, confidentiality and duty‑of‑care responsibilities
Complete injury, illness and emergency documentation
Report hazards or contributing factors to supervisors
Recognise emotional impacts on children, staff, responders and bystanders
Seek help or escalate concerns when psychological impacts are identified
Provide reassurance and support during and after an incident
Student Requirements
What you need:
- Access to the internet.
- A basic understanding of the English language.
- A driver's licence, passport or other form of photo-identification.
- Be aged 14 years or older
- Hold a valid USI number
Costs
$95 per student.
In the case of cancellations, students will be charged 50% of the cost. This fee is charged to cover administration costs for enrolment and resourcing. All students are required to complete the online theory assessment modules before the day of the practical. Any student who does not complete the online theory will not be able to participate in the practical assessment and will not be eligible to complete the short course. Any student not able to complete the practical assessment will forfeit their enrolment fee and the cost of the course.
